Wolford Stanley East

Wolford “Stanley” East passed peacefully in his sleep at Clinch Valley Medical Center on April 17, 2022. Stan had fought a years-long battle with Multiple Sclerosis, but recently succumbed to complications from a bone infection.

Stan was a 3^rd generation coal miner, retired from US Steel #50, and was an active member of the United Mine Workers of America (Local 1713). He enjoyed birdwatching, flower and vegetable gardening, Mountaineer football, and Gunsmoke. He also loved to laugh and never missed a chance to be the prankster.

Stan is preceded in death by his parents, Violet (Wood) and Wolford East, Brother Mike East, Grandmothers Alice “Mom” Wood and Dora East, Special Aunts Alice Richardson, Nannie East and beloved fur babies Fancydog and Muggs.

Those left to cherish his memory are the love of his life, Ruby Ann of the home, Children Sherry Lynn East aka #1 Kid (Rock Hill, SC), Wolford Stanley East, Jr. aka The Golden One (Steffonia) (Princeton, WV), Kristy Ann East aka “The Best”/” Jabber” (Montcalm, WV). He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Chelsea Star, Amber Leighann, and Wolford Stanley, III, and host of cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.  Stan was blessed to have John Overton and Dianna Baker as special friends and caregivers.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at 2:00PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with the Rev. Shawn Bragg officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Pallbearers will be Derek Clark, Jerry Kerns, Joshua Hayes, Jeremy Hayes, Hubert Mullins Sr., Hubert Mullins, Jr., Stanley East III, and John Overton.

Friends may visit prior to services, from 1:00-2:00 PM at the funeral home.
