Warner Scott Baker

February 5, 1973 — March 5, 2024

Warner Scott Baker, 51, of Pearisburg, VA passed away unexpectedly on March 5, 2024 doing what he loved: driving his 18-wheeler up the interstate to deliver products to Kroger. His family is deeply saddened by his sudden death.

Warner had an enormous heart. He was generous, loyal, and brave. He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his family and friends. He truly loved each of them – and if you knew him – you knew it.

Warner left Bluefield the day after his high school graduation to move to Myrtle Beach, SC to pursue his dream of becoming an airbrush artist. He accomplished that feat and moved on to Gatlinburg, TN to continue his career as an airbrush artist. He returned to Bluefield and earned his degree in Forestry and Wildlife Management at Southwest Virginia Community College.

Along with attending college, Warner worked as an apprentice with V. G. Altizer to learn the shoe repair business. He continued this line of work until he graduated from college and later, while still working a fulltime job, opened his own business, Old Towne Shoe Repair in Pearisburg, VA.

Warner’s interests are varied and his next career move was as a driver for Marshall Concrete. He also spent several years driving for Sheetz, but left the company when they decided to relocate his division to North Carolina. He drove his last mile employed by Titus Trucking in Salem, VA.

Warner loved to fly fish; take his boat on the river; and work on, and ride his motorcycles. But his greatest love was his Maine coon cat, Neeka. He claimed that she helped him work on his bikes.

Warner also loved to cook – and he especially enjoyed wowing his sisters with his culinary skills preparing Greek dishes. He grew his own herb garden and enjoyed cutting fresh herbs for his dishes.

Warner will be missed by his family and friends, but he would say, “Don’t be sad for me . . . I lived my life on my terms . . . and you can’t look back.”

Warner is survived by his father David Baker; his siblings Mike Baker, Kathy Brown (Kevin), and Kelly Shannon (Bill), nephew Jake Crockett, and lots of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Warner was predeceased by his mother Jane Baker.
