Wanda Jean Hale

May 24, 1949 — March 22, 2021

On March 22, 2021, the Lord whispered “my child your suffering is over. It’s time to come home.”  Wanda Jean Hale, 71, of Hemphill, WV, entered into her heavenly home after a long illness at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.  Born May 24, 1949, she was a daughter of the late Luther James Surface and Hilda Juanita Surface. Wanda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She had a witty personality and was loved by all.

 

Graduating from Welch High School in 1967, she had a love and talent for writing poetry and had one published. She loved to play piano.  She was a faithful servant of the Lord and was a member of the Welch Church of God serving as Sunday School teacher for many years.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, James Surface, Darlene Craven, and Judd Surface.

 

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, Donnie R. Hale, Sr. of Hemphill, WV; her loving son, Evangelist Donnie R. Hale, Jr. and wife, Teri of Princeton, WV; her loving daughter whom she affectionately called her “oompa” Donna F. Hale of Hemphill, WV; sisters, Debbie Rushbrook of TN, Sharon Morgan and husband, Elmer of TN, Rosie Gallighar of SC, and Virginia Castle and husband, Robie of Hemphill, WV; grandchildren, Brandi Campbell of Welch, WV, Jennifer Campbell and fiancé, Thomas Church of Kimball, WV, Dakota Campbell and wife, Faith of Northfork, WV, Morgan Hall, Taylor and Tanner Harrison, all of Hemphill, and Jessie Mitchem; great-grandsons, Emmett Cyrus and Trey Gregory, both of Hemphill, WV; great-granddaughter, Hope Willow-Paris Campbell of Northfork, WV; and special friend, Arlene Sorotsky of Welch, WV.

 

Funeral Services will be held at the Welch Church of God (Maitland Circle) Tuesday, March 31, 2021 at 12:00 PM with Bishop Tim Akers officiating.  Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park (Bluewell, WV).  The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.cravens-shires.com.  Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell is serving the Hale family.
