Vester Roosevelt Webb, age 94, passed away peacefully at his home in Bastian on August 18, 2025. Born on September 3, 1930, in McComas, West Virginia, Webb lived a life marked by devotion to family, community and military service, and a 34-year career at Chrysler's Newark, Delaware, assembly plant.
A proud veteran of the US Army, Vester served honorably during the Korean War, exemplifying the values of courage and commitment. Following his military service, Vester joined the Chrysler plant in Newark, Delaware, where his skills and knowledge earned him respect among his peers.
Vester was a beloved member of the Bastian Church of God, where he engaged with his faith and enjoyed the fellowship of his church family. His warm and welcoming nature endeared him to all who knew him, and he was known for his genuine love for his family and community and never-ending supply of wonderful stories. He could strike up a conversation with anyone anywhere.
He is survived by his cherished wife of 70 years, Lora Jean Thornsberry Webb, and their sons, Keith Webb and his wife Patti, and Edward Webb and his wife Ellie. Vester also leaves behind his brother Bayne Webb and his wife Judy, his brother Justin Webb, his sister Jeanette Whitley and her husband Lonnie, and his sister Christine Flowers. He is a proud grandfather of three grandchildren (Melanie McAllister, Krista Cannatelli, and Dylan Webb) and a devoted great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren (Caidy, Renny, Leo, Rhys, Brendan, Brodie, and Cecily), all of whom will miss him deeply.
Vester was preceded in death by his father, Albert Webb; mother, Elsie Mae Stone Webb; brother, Everett Webb; and sisters, Evelyn Gillenwater, Laura Hodges, and Nellie Law.
Visitation and funeral services will be held on August 25, 2025, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Homes in Bluefield, West Virginia. The visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM officiated by Rev. Cliff Bowman of the Bastian Church of God. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Mausoleum. As we remember Vester Roosevelt Webb, we honor not only a dedicated family man and community leader but also a kind-hearted soul whose legacy will be felt for generations to come.
