Tommie Jane Jackson

March 9, 1935 — September 12, 2024

Bluefield

Tommie Jane Jackson, of Bluefield, WV, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 12, 2024. Born March 9, 1935, she was the cherished daughter of the late Robert and Ruth Francis Johnston of Peterstown, West Virginia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth A. Jackson of Bluefield, WV, and her daughter Sandra Weems (Joseph) of Yorktown, VA.

Jane met Kenneth while attending business college in Bluefield when Kenneth was home on leave from the U.S. Air Force, and they married on May 30, 1954. Jane dedicated many years working as a clerk for the City of Bluefield, but her true passion was being a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables, cooking, and baking. Her family will fondly remember her famous German chocolate cakes and her traditional apple butter, a craft passed down from her ancestors.

A devoted member of First Church of God in Bluefield, VA, Jane was also actively involved in the Bluewell Woman’s Club. She is survived by her children, Ann Farmer (Steve) of Princeton, WV, and Donald Jackson (Nancy) of Peachtree City, GA; her brother, David Michael Johnston of Toronto, Canada; and her sisters, Nancy Leatherman and Bobbie Johnston, both of Melbourne, FL. Jane is also survived by seven grandchildren (Rhanda, Erica, Keith, Kelly, Ken, Ashlea, Alyson), and nine great grandchildren (Margie, Chris, Jon, Connor, Caroline, Hallie, Barrett, Jackson, Jayne).

We find comfort in the words of Christ from John 5:24, “Whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life; he has crossed over from death to life.”

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Christian Care Home, who lovingly cared for Jane since January 2024.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 PM Saturday, September 21, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike Barnes officiating. A private graveside service will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Jane’s daughter, Sandra Weems, who passed away on September 7, will also be remembered.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until the time of the service. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Jackson family.
