Teresa Darlene Dunlap

Teresa Darlene Dunlap, 61, departed this life on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. She was born March 31, 1965, to the late Curtis and Juanita Hicks.

Teresa shared over 23 years of marriage with her husband, Elmer “Jr.” Dunlap. She was previously married to the late Rick Cottle, father of her two oldest children, who always held a special place in her heart.

Teresa is survived by her children, Scott Cottle and wife Jessica, Danita Beheler and husband Jeremy, and Chance Dunlap; and her beloved grandchildren, Madison Cottle, Rylee Richardson, Reagan Richardson, Rowen Richardson, and Elijah Beheler.

More than anything, Teresa loved her babies. Being Mommaw was one of the greatest joys of her life. Her love for children extended far beyond her own family—there always seemed to be an extra kid or two at Teresa’s house, and many were loved just like her own.

She is also survived by her sisters, Debbie Ingram and husband Bobby and Connie Turner; brothers, Donald Hicks and Tommy Hicks and wife Kim; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Steven and Ronald Hicks.

Teresa was a homemaker and previously worked for the West Virginia Workforce Center. She will also be remembered for her love of flea markets, always searching for a bargain and finding treasures along the way.

A small memorial service honoring Teresa’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Cottle, Scooter Hicks, Justin Hicks, Matthew Warner, Jonathan Richardson, and Justin McMillion.

Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, West Virginia, is serving the family.
