Sylvia Jean Miller Phillips, 81, of Skygusty, WV, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2026 peacefully in her sleep at her home. Born October 18, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Boyd Fowler, Sr. and Hattie Goins fowler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobby Phillips; previous husband, Buster Jr. Miller; sister, Barbara Music; brothers, Billy, Tommy, and Jimmy Fowler.
Those left to cherish her memory are her step-son, Andrew Phillips and wife, Patricia of Christiansburg, VA; step-daughter, Brenda Hudnall and husband, Rusty of Christiansburg, V A; sisters, Betty Camden who was also her best friend and the one she came to depend upon; Mrs. Franklin Sexton (Shirley) of Beckley, WV, and Virginia Jones of Thorpe, WV; brothers, Boyd Fowler, Jr. (Sue) of Thorpe, WV, Kenny Fowler (Cricket) of Pageton, WV, Jairus Fowler of Skygusty, WV and Ralph Fowler (Kathy) of Bluefield, WV. A host of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who all loved her dearly.
Sylvia was a member of the Conklintown Church of God and she served as the piano player. She worked as a hairdresser for many years. She touched the lives of all those who knew her. She always made sure to tell everyone that she loved them, but that God loves them more.
Though our hearts are broken, we remain unwavering in our faith and know in our hearts that she is now walking the streets of gold and has crossed the finish line, having won the heavenly race.
Sylvia’s desire was to have no funeral. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 27, 2026 at the Conklintown Church of God with Rev. F.D. Sexton and Rev. Darryl Christian officiating. Entombment will be at the Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. There will be no public visitation.
Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Phillips family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Conklintown Church of God.
