Steven Bryant Simpson

Steven Bryant Simpson, age 67, of Northfork, WV passed away on September 15, 2026 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Steve was born on May 6, 1959 in Welch, WV to Rev. Harold and Rev. Shirley Spears-Simpson. Steve entered the Marine Corp on August 20, 1976 at the age of 17. He served his country until his time of honorable discharge in May of 1979. While in the service, Steve proudly completed high school by receiving his GED. After his time in the military, he continued his career in the construction field where he was an exceptional carpenter and drywall fabricator. 

Steve is preceded in death by both his paternal and maternal grandparents; mother, Rev. Shirley Spears-Simpson; son, Jason Freeman; and grandson, Kyle Vance. 

Left to cherish his memories are his father and best friend, Rev. Harold Simpson of Northfork, WV; son, Steven Simpson II of White Sulphur Springs, WV; daughter, Lisa Simpson of Garland, TX; daughter Cheryl Simpson of White Sulphur Springs, WV; brother, Mark Simpson and wife, Christie, of Tazewell, VA; grandchildren, Kassidy Vance, Kenley Vance, Erika Simpson, Madison Simpson, Natalie Simpson, and Brooklyn Simpson; niece, Carah Jones and husband, Nicholas; nephew, Tyler Simpson; nephew, Caleb Christian; nephew, Caden Christian; and great-nephew, Tate Jones.

Funeral services will be held at Cravens-Shires Chapel on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Mark Simpson officiating. Friends will be received from 1:00-2:00 PM. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park with the Mercer County Veterans Association honoring his military service. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Simpson family.
