Stanley Maurice Bompus

Stanley M. Bompus, 75, formerly of Crystal, West Virginia passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Dogwood Crossing Senior Living and Memory Care of Tazewell, Virginia.

Stanley was educated in Mercer County public schools. Afterwards, he proudly served in the United States Marines Corp. Upon separation from the Marines, Stanley held several long-term jobs. He worked for Ford Motor Company (Detroit, Michigan), as an Air Traffic Controller (New York), a chef at Pipestem Resort State Park (Pipestem, West Virginia) and in maintenance at Roanoke College (Salem, Virginia).

Stanley made his home in Huntington, WV with his absolute favorite person and great-niece, Ronika Bompus and family, including her husband, Marvin and their children, his great-great nephews, Lucas and Christian.

Stanley preceded in death by four sisters and one brother. He was the youngest and last living child born of the loving union between Cleve and Henrietta Bompus. He was a lifelong bachelor and never had any children of his own. As an uncle to almost everyone, he was affectionately known as Unck. He is survived by four nephews and seven nieces, 16 great-nephews/nieces and a host of great-great nieces/nephews, and even great-great-great nieces/nephews.

Stanley was loved unconditionally and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. There will not be another Unck, as he was devoted to his nieces and nephews, and spoiled them rotten. The family would like to  gratefully acknowledge all expressions of sympathy shown during our time of bereavement. May God continue to bless each of you.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home. Pastor Eddie Mabe, a lifelong friend, will officiate the service. Pastor Kathy Hairston will also be assisting with sevices, reading from the Old and New Testaments. Military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veteran's Honor Guard. Unck will be laid to rest at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, Virginia.

Friends may call on Saturday, prior to services, from 10:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home.
