Listen to Obituary

Scott “Shaggy” Stamper, 64, of Skygusty, West Virginia, passed away on July 29, 2026. Born on October 7, 1961, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Scott spent his childhood in Ohio, Tennessee, and primarily West Virginia, where he built a life centered on family, hard work, and laughter.

Scott worked in the coal mines for 30 years and was known for his exceptional carpentry skills and his passion for building and restoring old cars and hot rods. He took great pride in his work, but his greatest joy was his family. His daughter and grandchildren were the center of his world, and some of his favorite moments were spent fishing with his grandson.

Those who knew Scott will remember him as a hardworking, kind-hearted man with a one-of-a-kind personality. His contagious laugh, quick sense of humor, and love for life could brighten any room. He loved old-time rock and roll, piddling around, never turned down a good meal, and was known for saying, “Ol’ Dad was right.”

Scott is survived by his only child, Brandy Stamper Rotenberry & husband Eric Rotenberry; his grandchildren, Jacob Stamper and McKinsLeigh Koger; his stepmother, Kathy Stamper; his brothers, Shay Stamper & wife Danaze, Lonnie “Leader” Ball & wife Carolyn, Teddy “Bear” Ball; his sister, Debby Middleton; and a host of other special family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William “Bill” Stamper and Ellen Hummer Stamper; his brothers, Paul Stamper, Willie Stamper, Robbie Stamper, and Earl Stamper; and his sister, Judy Stamper.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Ronnie Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery.

Pallbearers include Jacob Stamper, Eric Rotenberry, Gary Day, Nick Marrs, Austin Long and Jamie Bailey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cravens-Shires Funeral Home to assist his daughter with funeral expenses.

Scott will be remembered for the life he lived, the laughter he shared, the love he had for his family, and the example he set through a lifetime of hard work.
