Russell Jay Holcomb

Russell “Rusty” Jay Holcomb, age 71, passed away peacefully after a very short battle with cancer on September 27, 2021 surrounded by family at his home in Rocky Gap.  He was born February 2, 1950 in Bluefield WV.  He will always be remembered by his family and friends as a good hearted man.

He was a retired fire fighter for the city of Bluefield WV for 27 years, where he acted as captain for many years.  Rusty was also the owner/operator of Holcomb Electric as a Master Electrician.  In his spare time, he loved to play music with his buddies.  

He was the son of the late Richard Holcomb and Rosaline Robins Holcomb.  He was also preceded in death by a sister, Risa Furches, his mommy-in-law Betty Lightner, and his second wife Martha Jackson Holcomb.  He was welcomed into heaven by his two loyal companions Muffin and Bud. 

Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 18 years Rita Holcomb of Rocky Gap who will cherish their memories and always thankful for the love they shared and the life they created. His son Rodney Holcomb and wife Felicia of Bramwell WV and his grandchildren Sean (Kayla) Holcomb, Raven Holcomb, and Michaela Petrulis.  He is also survived by his brother Rick (Marilyn) Holcomb of Forth Worth TX, his favorite aunt Margaret Callaert of NJ, and his “favorite” niece Carla (Ben) Auton and her children Calleigh King and Hunter Auton.  

The Holcomb family will hold a funeral service for Rusty on Saturday October 2, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell WV. Rusty’s buddy Richard Ferguson will be giving the eulogy and the family is also inviting Rusty’s friends and family to share their favorite memories of him. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with Firefighter honors.

Friends and family may visit the family on Friday from 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
