Roxie Lane (Thompson) Grubb, 73, of Bluefield, WV, peacefully passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at her home with her daughter and caregiver, Ashley, by her side. She had also been surrounded by her loved ones during her last days on earth. Born February 17, 1950 in McComas, WV, Roxie was the daughter of the late Junior and Edith (Pennington) Thompson. In addition to her parents, Roxie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Grubb, Sr.
Those left to cherish Roxie’s memory are her daughters, Melissa Miller (Tiffany) of Charlotte, NC, Lisa Vaillancourt (Mark) of Princeton, WV, Ashley Blackwell (Kerney) of Bluefield, WV; and son, Charles Grubb, Jr. (Mitzi) of Bluefield, WV; grandchildren are Erik Grubb (Audrea) of Princeton, WV, Nicholas Hurst (Kayla) of Charlotte, NC, Adam Stone (Jordan) of Princeton, WV, Isaac Goodman (Savannah) of Princeton, WV, Hannah Grubb of Ashville, NC, Jayden Grubb of Bluefield, WV, and one step-grandchild, Zackery Blackwell of Princeton, WV. Roxie was also blessed with many great-grandchildren, Rylen, Gracelynn, Cambria, Crew, Hunter, Bryson, Remi, Raegan, and Zaiyne. She had six sisters and two brothers that she loved dearly, Cynthia (Bill), Susan, Pamela (Don), Beverly (Sonny), Barbara, Tommy (Kathy), Nancy (Tony), and Greg. They are often known as the “Thompson clan.”
Roxie attended Pentecostal Revival Center in Princeton, WV. She enjoyed going to church. She worked many years as a cook at St. Luke’s Hospital. Roxie was well known for making old fashion fudge, homemade biscuits and gravy, and preparing delicious meals. She loved cooking for others and never met a stranger. Everyone she knew and met absolutely loved and adored her. She was best known as “mom and granny.” Roxie will be dearly missed by her family and all of those she knew.
Services to celebrate Roxie’s life will be 12:00 PM Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home. Visitation is from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Pastor Joyce Tedder and Pastor Roger Walker will be officiating the service. Family will serve as pallbearers.
