Rosalie Simplicio Owrey, 76, of Palm Bay, Florida and Bluefield, WV, passed away on October 31, 2026. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and her presence will be deeply missed.

Rosalie was born in April of 1950 in Northfork, WV, the youngest of ten children born to Antonio and Giustina Benedetto Simplicio. After graduating from Northfork High School, she earned her bachelor's degree at Concord University and her MS in Clinical Social Work at Radford University. As a licensed professional counselor and a licensed clinical social worker, she dedicated her career to supporting her community. Her 40-year social work career included 34 years at Princeton Community Hospital as Director of Social Services and Oncology Navigator, where she guided patients and families through some of the most difficult moments of their lives with compassion and steadiness. Upon retiring, Rosalie treasured spending time with family and dear friends, reading, walking, doing puzzles, enjoying the sunshine and shops in Florida, and spoiling her granddaughters.

Rosalie’s greatest gift was her love and care for others. Sometimes that was a pan of lasagna, a nod to her Italian roots, or a chocolate cake or batch of peanut butter fudge. Sometimes it was on adventures, like tromping through a freezing Disney World with her grandchildren. Mostly it was through her open ears and arms, a willingness to listen to others, invest in their stories, and appreciate who they are.

Rosalie is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, James (Jim) Owrey. They loved spending time together and could always make each other laugh. She is also survived by her daughter Sara (Michael) Monteleone of Leesburg, Virginia; her son James Owrey of Charleston, WV; and her granddaughters, Juliette and Penelope. Other survivors include sisters Micheline Shea Noble and Giustina Rhodes; brothers-in-law Giorgio Curletto and Roy Mathena; many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Antonio and Giustina; her brothers, Vasile, Luke, and Antonio Jr.; her sisters, Josephine, Anna, Antonette, and Nancy; her sisters-in-law Claire, Mona, Janet, Mary, and Gaye; her brothers-in-law Jim, Mike, Frank, Ed, Bob, Tom, and Toby; and her nephews Michael and Howard.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Craven-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, WV with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 10, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Rosalie’s memory to The Concord Fund at Concord University.
