Ramona Rae “Mona” (Bowles) Rose

7/20/1956 – 3/7/2024

Ramona Rae Rose, also known as Mona, peacefully passed away after a short illness to which she never complained on March 7, 2024, in Charlotte, NC, at the age of 67. She was born on July 20, 1956. Mona, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and Grammie, lived a life filled with unique experiences and unwavering faith. Her journey in life is one you may normally have read about in books or watched in a movie. Her life was unique with struggles, people, love, and loss. However, she remained steadfast with her faith and strength in family and with friends. She was gentle, wise, and confident. She is now running to Jesus as the child she never got to be, due to her having to grow up fast in this dark world. She will forever be surrounded by compassion and intangible love with overwhelming joy.

Mona was a Jack of All Trades, having worked in various roles such as in the coal mines, as a lifeguard, cook, and cleaner. She pursued higher education and obtained a Criminal Justice Degree from SVCC. She loved teaching Sunday school classes.

She is survived by her son Billy J Rose and his wife, Beth, of Myrtle Beach, SC; her daughter Julie Rose Bishop and her husband, John, of Charlotte, NC; her grandchildren, Blake, Brayden, Cartland, Alex, Marae, and Graylee; her brothers, Pete Mitchem and his wife Cheryl, of Bluefield, VA, and Clifford Mitchem and his wife Jamie, of Bluewell, WV, along with many other nieces and nephews.

Mona was preceded in death by her loving husband, Douglas Rose who she met while working in the coal mines, and her parents Louis and Shirley Ward Bowles, her brother Gilbert Tom Bowles, and her sister Agnes May.

A celebration of Mona's life will be held on Saturday, March 16th, at Falls Mills Christian Church, 14836 Mud Fork Rd., Falls Mills, Virginia 24613. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., with the funeral service following at 11:30 a.m.  Pallbearers will be Bill Rose, Blake Rose, Clifford Mitchem, Pete Mitchem, Justin Mitchem and Matt Lucas. The graveside service will take place at Grandview Cemetery in Bluefield, Virginia. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield, WV, is assisting with the arrangements.

Her legacy of faith, strength, and love for her family and friends will be cherished forever. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
