Phyllis Jane Conner Miles was born October 21,1939 in Bluefield Virginia to Mildred Frances Conner and Hugh Moses Conner. Phyllis passed peacefully on October 3, 2026.
Graduating from Bramwell High School led her to McClain’s Business College. Her career started at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company transitioning on to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department and back to Met Life. Then, she worked in the Trust Department at First National Bank of Bluefield later to be named First Century Bank.
Robert “Bob” Lee Miles the high school sweetheart married Phyllis and they started a life in Bluewell. She was a widow for twenty-six years and enjoyed spending time with her devoted best friend, daughter Jane Lee Miles Wolkoff and caring son-in-law Preston Jerome Wolkoff.
Samuel “Sam” James Conner her brother and wife Margaret live in Winston Salem. Along with their daughter Renee Cornwell and husband Greg.
Phyllis enjoyed her brothers-in-laws Ed Miles and wife Betty, Bill Miles, and Emory Miles all of Florida. Analogous brother-in-law/nephew Don Miles of Virginia Beach Virginia. She shared many good ‘times up on the hill’ with all her departed brothers and sisters-in-law.
Innumerable nieces and nephews, Cousin Richard Brewester and wife Jeannie of Bluefield Virginia added to her life. She always thought family should come first.
Phyllis was a member of The Elizabeth Bowen Jones Memorial United Methodist Church all her life. She taught Sunday School, a member of The Cora Johnson Circle, Women in Faith and choir while performing duties as treasurer of the building fund and financial secretary. She was a charter member of the Bluewell Woman’s Club.
Living in Bluewell for sixty years led her to live with her daughter and son-in-law four years and her final life experience at Nelson’s Home Care for almost three years. A heart-felt expression of gratitude to her exceptional care givers Shelby, Regina, Becky and Mary that helped her navigate through her experience with Alzheimer.
A celebration of life service will be at the Elizabeth Bowen Jones Memorial United Methodist Church on Friday, October 9 with visitation at 1:00, service at 2:00 followed by interment Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell.
Assisting with service are Pastor Bill Crawford, Associate Pastor Jay VanReenan, Preston Wolkoff, Pianist Dan Turner, Vocalist Becky Allen and Pallbearers Jim Martin, Mike Hurley, Chuck Lawless, Gene Buckner, Chuck Rushbrook, Jimmy Bishop and Preston Wolkoff.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the church in her memory PO Box 306 Bramwell, WV 24715 or remember her when you eat a piece of chocolate, drink a Coca-Cola, watch a Hallmark movie or love someone deeply.
