Patricia Kay Semanco Mallory, lovingly known as Patty Kay, passed away on December 18, 2025, at the age of 74. Patty Kay was born on April 18, 1951, and was the only child of Paul and Mary Semanco (Trechock). She grew up in Elkhorn, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her beloved aunt and uncle, Pauline (Trechock) and Johnson Chow of Galion, Ohio, who held a special place in the entire family's heart.
On June 28, 1975, Patty married Don Mallory, becoming he devoted wife of 50 years. Together, they built a life rooted in love, partnership, and family. The couple lived in South Charleston, West Virginia before relocating to Northwest Columbus, Ohio, where they made their long-term home. Patty was a loving mother to her daughters, Shannon Mallory Fatseas (Jeff) and Tara Mallory, and a deeply proud grandmother to Beau and Burke Fatseas, who brought her immense joy.
Education was central to Patty's life as her mother was also her elementary teacher and instilled a love of reading in her daughter. She earned her undergraduate degree from Concord University, where she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority, and later completed her Master of Education at Marshall University. She began her career as an elementary teacher in 1975, before choosing to step away from the classroom to devote herself fully to raising her family as a homemaker. Once her younger daughter reached high school, Patty returned to teaching, where she continued to share her passion for education until her retirement in 2024. As a long-time third grade teacher, Patty loved books, reading, work puzzles, spelling bees, animals, and bird watching. She found joy in encouraging curiosity and confidence in young learners while encouraging a life-long love for reading. Patty was also a compassionate animal lover throughout her life and shared her home with many beloved rescue pets. Patty had a deep love of reading and was rarely without a book close at hand. She was also known for being fiercely competitive at games, especially rummy, euchre, and Yahtzee, and took pride in a well-earned win.
Above all else, Patty loved her family. She loved her husband, her daughters, her grandchildren, her extended family, her friends, and her pets. She made it a daily habit to tell those closest to her that she loved them.
