Ona Bryant Moody, Sr.

Ona Bryant Moody, Sr., 80, of Rock, WV, passed Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at McDowell Healthcare Center. 

Born October 2, 1944, in Montcalm, WV, he was a son of the late Jeremiah and Athlone McKenzie Moody. Ona was a lifelong resident of Montcalm. He retired from the coal mines, working as an electrician and superintendent over multiple mine sites. Ona was the former governor of the Bluefield, WV Moose Lodge, and a member of the Bluefield, WV Mason Lodge. He was also a US Veteran, serving in the United States Army. 

In addition to his parents, Ona was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Evelyn Moody; brothers, Lonnie, Tinker, Clyde, and Melvin; and sisters, Naomi, JerryMae, Gail, and Pansy. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. 

Those left to cherish Ona’s memory are his son, Ona B. Moody, Jr., of Farnham, VA; daughter, Maria L. Moody, of Gary, WV; grandchildren, Amanda and Cody, Nathan, Jonathan, and Ona Bryant III; and 9 great grandchildren. 

In keeping with Ona’s wishes, he is to be cremated and no public services are to be held.
