Nina Joyce Riggs Black

July 29, 1926 — March 5, 2021

Friday, March 5, 2021, Nina took Jesus’ hand and danced into heaven.

Born July 29, 1926, in Montcalm, WV, Nina Joyce Riggs Black was the youngest and last surviving child of the fourteen children born to Benjamin Franklin Riggs and Molly Hester Blankenship Riggs.

A member of the Pentecostal Holiness church, Nina was a dedicated Sunday School teacher and women’s ministry leader. Along with her husband Billy, she was also instrumental in helping establish a church in southern Ohio in the 1960s. She was always generous and one of her finest qualities was the gift of hospitality.  “Are you hungry?” was the greeting everyone received as they entered her home. She hosted many pastors, evangelists, and missionaries.

Nina was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, William Thomas Black, her parents and her siblings Maudie Helmandollar, Myrtle Dameron, Hobart Riggs, Buford Riggs, May Riggs, Oakley Riggs, Audrey Koszezepki, Florence Ford, Gladys Dodson, Ethel Jones, Helen Sheets, Robert Riggs, and Haskell Riggs.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Richard Black (LaTrissia), Princeton, WV, and daughter/caregiver Dianne Jarvis (Kenneth), Toccoa, GA. Grandchildren: Joy Morris (Patrick) Bluewell, WV, Aaron Black (Sherri), Princeton, WV, Christopher Shea, Gainesville, GA, Benjamin Jarvis (Dani), Gainesville, GA and Alina Jarvis, Seneca, SC, seven great-grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Montcalm WV Pentecostal Holiness Church on May 15, 2021 at 2:30 pm.
