Nathan Lee Shrader

September 7, 1949 — April 13, 2023

“I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race.”

Nathan Lee Shrader 73, of Montcalm passed away April 13 surrounded by his loving family. 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years. Claudine Shrader (Lusk) of the home.

Daughters Heather Meredith, (Mike) of Johnson City TN and Jeanne Burns (Andy) of Beverly WV.

Grandsons Andrew Meredith, Maryville Tn.- Nathan Meredith of Johnson City and Aiden Lee Burns of Beverly WV.  Nathan loved and adored his grandsons and would end every call with “tell the boys I love’em. and hug everyone for me”

Sisters Becky Lantz(Allen) of Beverly WV, Linda Shrader, brothers, Mitch Shrader, Sam Shrader, Kevin Shrader (April) all of Mill Creek WV and a host of nieces and nephews as well as many special friends. 

He was preceded in death by his Parents James and Thora Shrader, Sister Karen Cardinal, Sister Kimberly Shrader, brothers Randy and Gary Shrader.  

Nathan was born Sept 7, 1949 in Mill Creek WV.  He graduated from Tygarts Valley High School.  Nathan volunteered for the US Army and served in the Vietnam War in 1970-1971.  He was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in action.  Nathan returned home and moved to the Montcalm area in 1972.  Nathan worked in the industrial gas business for over 40 years and retired from Valley National Gases in 2019.  He also worked after retirement for W & B Fabricators until he fully retired in 2021. 

Nathan was a devoted father and grandfather who dearly loved his family.  He made many great friends and acquaintances over the years.  Nathan was always willing to help anyone and would always put others needs in front of his own.  He was an avid WV Mountaineer fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing and “piddling” on the farm.   

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Michael Meredith officiating. Military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard.

Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00-2:00 PM at the funeral home.
