Nancy Doretta Blackwell, cherished wife and devoted member of the Baptist faith, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at Highland Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Dublin, Virginia. Born on March 6, 1954, in Bluefield, West Virginia, Nancy’s life was marked by her steadfast commitment to family and her faith.
A lifelong resident of Bluefield, Nancy was a proud graduate of Bluefield High School. As a homemaker, she poured her heart into creating a loving and supportive environment for her family, a role she embraced with grace and unwavering devotion.
Nancy was the loving daughter of the late Mack and Mollie Proffitt Brewster, whose legacy she honored through her faith and family values. Her life was a testament to the strength and compassion instilled in her by her parents.
Nancy was blessed with a loving husband, Don Blackwell, who stood by her side through every chapter of their life together. Her beloved daughter, Jamie Blackwell, of Bluefield, Virginia, continues to cherish her mother’s memory, as does her granddaughter, Kaitlyn Peery, also of Bluefield.
She is survived by her sisters, Regina Hankins and her husband Bill of Princeton, West Virginia, and Sandra Brewster and her husband Ralph Proffitt of Bluefield, West Virginia. Their love and support were constants in Nancy’s life. Nancy’s heart also carried the loss of her sister, Yvonne Crigger of Maryland, and her brothers Michael, Bobby, Terry, George, Junior, Steven, and Robert Brewster, who predeceased her.
A visitation to celebrate Nancy’s life will be held on May 12, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Cravens-Shires Funeral Homes, located at 3431 Coal Heritage Road, Bluefield, West Virginia. This will be followed immediately by her funeral service at 2:00 PM at the same location with Rev. Kenneth McFarland officiating. She will be entombed at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens after the service with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
