Mitzi Faye East, age 93, of McDowell, received her heavenly reward on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, at her home with her daughter by her side. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mitzi was met at Heaven's gate by her loving husband, Clyde, her parents, Blanche and C.C. Hodges, her sisters, Edith Foster (Tag), Addie Dunford, Betty Gillespie (Jimmy), her brothers, Reginald Hodges (Rosie), C.C. Hodges, Jr. and Earl Hodges (Margaret), and a host of other family members and friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Veronica (Vicki) Mason and husband, Philip, two granddaughters, Heather Mason-Buie and husband, Darnnelle, Brandi Palmateer and husband, Andre', a great-granddaughter, Jordan Benfield, great-grandsons, Daniel Palmateer, Jaquaan Buie, Mason Palmateer and Logan Palmateer. She is also survived by her church family.
Mitzi was an angel on earth. She was a member of the McDowell Methodist Church her entire adult life, serving her God in many capacities, from Sunday School teacher to worship leader. She loved the Lord and everybody knew it. She was a sweet soul, never complaining and never speaking negatively about others. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
A service to celebrate Mitzi's life will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, November 15, 2024 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Smearman officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park where family members will serve as Pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the East family.
