Michael Lee Boyd, Sr. passed away on May 31, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of strength, devotion, and unwavering love. A hardworking man throughout his life, Michael was known for his resilience, his sound advice, and his deep commitment to those he loved. He faced life's challenges with courage and determination, overcoming hardships that would have broken many others. A veteran and a fighter, he survived a major heart attack and countless obstacles over the years, always demonstrating the strength and perseverance that defined him.

In recent weeks, Michael's greatest wish was to be reunited with his beloved wife, Janice Marie Boyd. After losing the love of his life just six weeks earlier, he often spoke of wanting to be with her again. Their love was a testament to a lifetime spent together, and his family finds comfort in knowing they are now reunited.

Nothing brought Michael more joy than his family. He cherished every moment spent gathering with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating memories filled with love, laughter, and togetherness. His wisdom, stories, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Nancy Boyd and Albert Mooney; his stepfather, Thaddus Blankenship; his beloved wife, Janice Marie Boyd; his son, Roy Lee Boyd; and eight brothers and two sisters.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Tammy Buchanan (Kenneth) of Abbs Valley, Virginia, Michael Lee Boyd, Jr. (Penny) of Glenwood, West Virginia, and Heather Pruitt of Falls Mills, Virginia.

He is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Andy Buchanan (Karen), Christopher Stephany, Catherine Musick, Brett Buchanan (Nikki), Dylan Buchanan, Lindsey Pruitt, Jacob Pruitt, Jenna Boyd, Morgan French, Kloe Stephany, Noah Musick, Kimberlyn Stephany, Lainey Buchanan, and Lincoln Buchanan.

He is further survived by his brothers and sisters: James Mooney (Dorothy), Fred Mooney (Brenda), Carla Boyd (Doug), Darlene Tupper, Pearl Akers, Maryann Ferguson, and Wanda Saunders.

Michael shared a special bond with his nephew, John Lowe, whose love, friendship, and devotion meant so much throughout the years. Their relationship was one Michael treasured deeply.

His family is especially grateful to have been able to spend his final hours by his side, sharing precious moments, offering comfort, and surrounding him with the love that meant so much to him throughout his life.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Stephany, Jacob Pruitt, Noah Musick, Kenneth Buchanan, Andy Buchanan, Brett Buchanan, Timothy Webb, and John Lowe.

Friends and family are welcome to attend visitation on Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, West Virginia. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. and will be followed by a burial ceremony at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Pastor Reginald Blakewood will officiate.
