Mary Stella Harrison

Mary “Stella” Harrison, age 98, of Bluefield, passed away peacefully at her granddaughter’s home on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 surrounded by her family.

Stella was born on December 7, 1924 in McComas, WV. She was the daughter of the late Jim and Mary Fuda. Stella was a devout Christian, wife, mother, and Granny. She was a founding member of First Baptist Church of Bluewell. She blessed many through her years of service as a Director of Sunday School, VBS, WMU , and through her many prayers. She enjoyed her time serving as Secretary and Treasurer for the Friday Senior League at Mountaineer Lanes. Aside from her various positions in church and bowling, Stella enjoyed crocheting, knitting, crafting, puzzles, and her visits with her beloved McDonald’s friends. Most importantly, she loved spending her time with family. Stella loved deeply and in abundance. She was “Granny” to so many.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, George; Grandson, Michael Bailey; Great-Grandson, Michael Brandon Burnette; Sisters, Rosa Lorenzo, Katie Penas, Vee McNew, and Quentina Penas; and Brothers, Carlos, Waddie, Louie, and Frankie Fuda.

Survivors include:

Daughter: Carolyn Shumaker of Princeton, WV

Granddaughters: Tina Bailey of Bluefield

                                Leah Ann Wimmer and husband Tim of Falls Mills, VA

Great-Grandchildren: Justin Burnette and wife Kat, Heather Key and husband Matthew, Brittaney Williams and husband Tanner, and Timothy “TJ” Wimmer and Lexie Browning

Great-Great-Grandsons: Cayden and Zander Key

Sister: Augustine Bradley

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, 3431 Coal Heritage Road, Bluefield, WV (Bluewell) with Rev. James Milam officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell. Pallbearers will be Timmy Wimmer, Tanner Wimmer, T.J. Wimmer, Matthew Key, Cayden Key, Justin Burnette with Zander Key serving as honorary pallbearer.

Friends may call from 12:00 – 1:00 PM prior to the funeral service.
