Our beautiful mother, Martha Jo McVey, gained her heavenly body April 22nd 2026. She was born July 23rd 1956 to the late Myrtle Marie Minnix and Thurman Minnix, and called West Virginia home her entire life. We were blessed to have a mother who understood that the important things in life weren’t material, money or notoriety. She dedicated her entire life to what matters most: loving and caring for her family, feeding everyone around her, spoiling her grandchildren and adding beautiful creations into the world. She never missed a cheerleading practice, school award ceremony, or basketball game. Her greatest passion was cooking, and she was well known for the incredible cakes and delicious treats she imagined up. Her biggest love was her 11 grandchildren- Kade Lucas, Gunnar Wayne, Kennedy, Joseph, Esther, Jolynn, Madi, Kaylee, Olivia, Oliver, and Josie who will forever cherish her memory. Also left to carry on her memory are her loving husband who stayed by her side through sickness and health- Gerald McVey, her two daughters - Kristen Wright and Katie Eanes, and two son-in-laws - Jason Wright and Greg Eanes. She also leaves behind her “adopted” children- Chandra Bosley, Joseph and Katie Danieley and Jennifer Patterson. Also surviving are her siblings- Karen Epperson, Janet Miller, and Samuel Minnix; mother- in- law Janet McVey, her special best friend and sister in law Tammy Minnix and special friend, Deborah Whited. She was loved by so many more, including a host of special friends, cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister -Sharon Fitzko, and her three brothers- James Minnix, Thurman Minnix, and Dougie Minnix. The family would like to give a special, heartfelt thanks to the nurses at Princeton Hospital on the 2 west floor- Lacee, Jakob, Kira, Brooke and many others who gave our mother the best care they possibly could in her final days. We would also like to thank Blue Ridge Cancer Center and Dr. Young for the work and dedication to treating mom through her cancer journey, which led to us having so much extra time with her. Finally we would like to thank Ultra Hospice - and especially Wendy- for going above and beyond to ensure her comfort at home. Services will be held at Craven Shires Funeral Home Saturday, April 25th with visitation from 4pm-6pm and a small service following immediately after. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to your preferred cancer research charity in our Mother’s name.
