Martha Ann Carter, 80 of Wembley Drive, Roanoke, VA, formerly of Welch, WV - Welch Pineville Rd, passed away December 27, 2025 . She was a cherished matriarch. Born on December 12, 1945, in Gary, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Virginia Jones.
Martha was a graduate of Gary High School and retired from the Welch City School. She was appreciated for all the wonderful meals she helped prepare for students.
In her personal life, Martha was devoted to church and the surrounding community. She is remembered with deep affection by her daughter, Virginia Parks of Roanoke, Virginia, and her son, Wesley Carter of South Carolina. Her legacy continues through her grandson, Joseph Zachary Parks, who holds precious memories of his grandmother's spirit.
Martha is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Cecil Carter, formerly of Welch - Welch Pineville Rd., and her beloved parents, Carl and Virginia Jones. Their love and guidance shaped her into the remarkable woman she became, and their absence is felt deeply by those she leaves behind.
Martha's memory will endure in the hearts of her family and friends. A visitation honoring her life will be held on December 31, 2025, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Homes in Bluewell, West Virginia, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service starting at 11:00 AM officiated by Rev. Dean Hatfield.
