Maria Victoria Roberts

Maria Victoria Roberts, age 80, of Laurel, Maryland, passed away March 15th. 2024, after succumbing to a battle with cancer. Born in Jenkinjones, WV on November 5th, 1943, she was the daughter of Virgilio Naticchioni, of Umbria, Italy, and Artida DeLuca, of West Virginia. Her grandparents were Guiseppe Naticchioni, Felicia Canuccia, Bruno DeLuca, and Victoria Michioletti, all of Italy.

After graduating from Graham High School in Bluefield, VA., she sought work in Washington D.C., working for the Office of the Comptroller General of the United States. She also worked for the U.S. Department of Transportation. She was a resident of Laurel, Maryland for more than 50 years.

Married to her high school sweetheart, Charles Carruthers, Maria gave birth to Brian Carruthers on April 1st, 1969. Later married to Alan I. Roberts, she gave birth to Michael Roberts on February 5th, 1974. Maria was the best mother to her two boys, as well as four step-children and seven step-grandchildren. She always made sure family get togethers and Christmas were memorable. She was the family historian, arranging family reunions and documenting family narratives. Everyone will remember her with that video camera in hand at all the family events.

Maria was an avid gardener, excellent cook, proud of her Italian heritage, good at arts and crafts, and traveled the world including Mexico, the Caribbean, many countries of Europe, and an extensive stay in Pakistan.

Maria left behind in this world her two sisters Joann Shields of Laurel, MD and Norma Jessee of Bluefield, WV;  her two boys, Michael Roberts of Lake Stevens, WA, and Brian Carruthers of Laurel, MD; stepchildren Ted Roberts, Tom Roberts, and Laura Hoffher; seven step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and extended family members.

Services will be held at Cravens Shires Funeral Home at 1:00 PM on March 22, 2024 with Minister Rick Mathena officiating. There will be a burial afterwards at Woodlawn Cemetery across the street so that Maria can be laid at peace near her mother and father. Family will receive friends at the funeral home at 12:00 PM until the start of services.
