Margaret Marie Proffitt

Marie Proffitt, 85, of Bluefield, VA, joined her husband Jack in Heaven on Sunday, December 5, 2021 after a long illness. She was born in Ashland, WV on July 13, 1936 to the late David Columbus Hart and Addie Elizabeth Blackburn Hart.

  Marie married the love of her life, the late Jack Witten Proffitt on October 4, 1954, and they spent 65 years together in Bluefield, VA. They had one son, Steve, born in 1961. Jack left her side when he passed away on November 14, 2019. Marie and Jack were faithful members of Cumberland Heights Baptist Church in Bluefield for more than 60 years.

Marie was a graduate of Montcalm High School and attended National Business College. As a young girl she was employed at Kresge’s in Bluefield, and for Dr. J. Elliot Blaydes, but she found her calling in life working for Dr. Tom and Elizabeth Richardson at the Children’s Clinic in Bluefield.

In addition to her parents and husband Jack, she was predeceased by sister Marcia Dixon of Richmond, VA.

  Marie is survived by her son Steven Dale Proffitt and wife Nancy Carol Proffitt of Bristol, VA, as well as sisters Jean Thoss of Springfield, VA, Betty Baldwin (Tom) of Woodbridge, VA, Carole Necessary (Curtis) of Ashland, VA, brother-in-law Ted Dixon of Richmond, VA as well as several nieces and nephews.

Adhering to Marie’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Bluefield, VA, with the Reverend Jim Kestner officiating.

  The Proffitt family would like to give special thanks to the employees at Westwood Center, Commonwealth at Cedar Bluff, Clinch Valley Medical Center, and Helping Hands for their care and compassion during Marie’s illness.
