Linnie Hale Hammonds, age 82, of Bluefield, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025.
Born in Jenkin Jones, West Virginia, Linnie was the daughter of the late Mary Harman Pruett and Harvey William Pruett. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose kindness and love touched everyone she met. Her smile could brighten any room, and her unwavering faith and compassion guided her throughout her life.
She was the devoted mother of the late Cindy Miller, Jeannie Spence and husband Eddie Spence of Bluefield, WV, Karl Gene Hammonds Jr. of Bluefield, WV, and Sidney Russell Hale of Springville, VA.
Linnie was the cherished grandmother of Jennifer Tate and husband Justin Tate, Jessica Howerton, Randy Howerton Jr., Randall Doss Jr., Lillian Hartwell, Russell Lee Hale, and Karl Frank Hale. She was also blessed with many great-grandchildren and was joyfully awaiting the arrival of her first great-great-grandson, a new light she looked forward to meeting.
Linnie was preceded in death by her grandmother Suzie Sluss, parents, Mary Harman Pruett and Harvey William Pruett, her sister Anna Aliff, her daughter Cindy Miller, and Granddaughter Michelle Hammonds. She is survived by her loving sister, Lily Tatem, who shared many cherished memories and years of laughter with her.
She was an active member of the Indian Meadows Campground community, the First Presbyterian Church of Bluefield, the Indian Meadows Fellowship of Lerona, and the Moose Lodge of Bluefield. Her faith, generosity, and welcoming spirit made her a light in every gathering. She loved spending time outdoors, sharing stories around a campfire, and lending a helping hand to anyone in need. Her door was always open, and her table always had room for one more.
Those who knew Linnie will remember her as a woman of deep strength, endless kindness, and a wonderful sense of humor. She had a gift for making everyone feel like family, and her presence was a source of comfort and joy.
A service to celebrate Linnie’s life will be held at Craven Shires Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Family viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by family and friends visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Linnie will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her love, laughter, and strength will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is reunited with loved ones who went before her, resting now in the peace of God’s eternal embrace.
