Listen to Obituary

Larry L. Conner, 79, of Bluefield, West Virginia, formerly of Crumpler, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at WVU Hospital, with his beloved wife by his side. He cherished and deeply loved her, and he found his greatest happiness in the life they shared.

Born on August 17, 1946, he was the son of the late Clifford G. Conner and Alice “Minnie” Adkins Conner.

Larry attended Deliverance Temple Church in Brushfork, where he loved his church family and valued the time he spent with them.

He was a retired coal miner, having worked for Consol. After leaving the mines, he went on to retire from a career at Flowers Bakery. In his later years, he enjoyed working part-time at Gary’s Market in Bluewell, where he was always glad to see familiar faces.

Larry was a veteran of the United States Navy and was very proud of his service. He often shared stories from his time in the Navy, especially those spent with his twin brother, Harry, during boot camp.

He loved NASCAR and looked forward to race days, especially enjoying the special snacks his wife took such joy in preparing. He also appreciated his friend Jimmy, who never let him miss a race.

More than anything, Larry was a man who found his greatest happiness at home, surrounded by the people he loved.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Conner; his nephew, Matthew Conner; his son-in-law, Daniel Watson; and his mother- and father-in-law, the Reverends Isaiah and Lillie Watkins.

Left to cherish his memory are the wife he adored for 53 years, Jewel Watkins Conner; his beloved daughters, Kari Conner Watson of Clayton, North Carolina, and Janet Conner Mills and her husband, Derrick, of Raleigh, North Carolina; his twin brother, Harry Conner and his wife, Cathy, of Bluefield, Virginia; his sister-in-law, Beatrice Conner; sisters-in-law Susi Wills and her husband, Gary, and Becky Vanover and her husband, Jim, along with their daughter, Lillie Grace; brothers-in-law Sherman Watkins and his wife, Beverly, and David Watkins and his wife, Vickie; as well as many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, May 4, at Deliverance Temple Church in Brushfork, West Virginia, with Rev. David Kirby officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, where military honors will be conducted by the Mercer County Veteran's Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Derrick Mills, Gary Wills, Jim Vanover, Freddy Kirby, Jimmy Miles, and Curt Franklin along with Honorary Pallbearer, Tom Kirby.

Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Conner family.
