Larmer Basil Rogers

On December 23, 2022, Larmer Rogers, 95, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. A lifelong resident of McComas, WV, he spent 42 years working in the dark of the coal mines. Once he retired, he spent his time as a fisher of men, witnessing to all he could of his Pentecostal faith. Larmer spent his entire adult life trying to bring souls to the Lord, and he was never dissuaded from his purpose. Perhaps it could best be summed up in 2 Timothy 4:6-8.

            “6. For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 8 Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day and not to me only, but unto all of them also that love his appearing. “

The son of the late John O. Rogers and Virginia Gills Rogers, he was a humble man who was well-loved and respected by all who knew him. A helping hand could always be found with him. Prayer and advice were only a phone call away. He was a devoted family man, beloved by each child and grandchild. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Ruby Shrewsbury Rogers and his older sons, David Keith Rogers (Deena Rogers) and Larry Blaine Rogers (Cherise Rogers).

He is survived by sons, Michael Rogers (Kay Rogers) and Barry Rogers (Sherri Rogers). Daughters, Kimberly Rogers and Susan Rogers. Grandchildren include Chelse Griffin, Sara Rogers (Dustan Delong), Denise Rogers, David Rogers, Kristen Goins (Dustin Goins), and Steven Rogers. He leaves behind a host of great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Kirby officiating and music provided by Mickey Kennett. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where Steven Rogers, Dustin Goins, Jordan Ball, and James Kennett will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of service.
