Johnny Lee Bolen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully at his home on April 27, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born on March 3, 1957, in Grundy, Virginia, Johnny lived a life marked by a passion for family and heritage.
Johnny’s life was rich with meaningful memories, among them were the countless hours spent playing cards with family and friends. These simple gatherings provided joy and laughter as well as strengthened the bonds that defined his life. He was a devoted family man who truly delighted in spending time with his loved ones, a commitment that remained the proudest accomplishment of his life.
An enthusiast of classic cars, Johnny had a genuine appreciation for the craftsmanship and history encapsulated in each vehicle. This hobby reflected his respect for tradition and a keen eye for beauty, traits he carried into all aspects of his life.
Johnny's legacy is lovingly carried on by his wife, Karen Bolen, with whom he shared a life of enduring partnership and love. Together, they built a family that stands strong today, enriched by their sons Johnny Bolen II and Jason Bolen, both of Jenkinjones, West Virginia. His brothers Lonnie Bolden (Peggy) of Maiden, NC, Michael Bolden (Gloria) of Welch, WV, Mark Bolen of Beckley, WV, and E.J. Bolen (Sissy) of O'Toole, WV, and sisters Carol Bolen of Kimball, WV, and Renee Bolen (Glen) of Pageton, WV, remember him as a steady and supportive presence in their lives.
His legacy extends warmly to his grandchildren Tyler (Jaylen), Bryen, Jassie, Jaden, Brandy, and his great-granddaughter Mackenzie, all of whom brought immense joy to his life. Johnny also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who admired and respected him deeply.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Jake Bolen and Lottie White Bolen, who instilled in him the values of hard work, kindness, and loyalty that defined his character as well as a brother Jimmy, of Jenkinjones, WV and a sister Diane, of North Carolina.
In celebrating Johnny Lee Bolen’s life, family and friends recall a man whose genuine spirit and unwavering dedication to those he loved will continue to inspire. His memory will live on in the stories shared around card tables and in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him. A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor at the Bolen Family Reunion in Jenkinjones, WV on June 13th, 2026. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is proud to serve the Bolen family.
