John Perry Mays, age 65, of Bluefield, Virginia, embraced eternity on October 24, 2026, enveloped in the love of his family and faith. Born in Welch, West Virginia, John was the beloved son of Mary Jane Kestner and the late Gary Roberts. He leaves behind a legacy of cherished relationships; his dear daughter Madison Mays residing in Northamptonshire, UK, as well as his sons, Randy McKinney of Richmond, Virginia, and Patrick McKinney of Yakima, Washington.

John's life was adorned with the companionship of his brothers, Brian Roberts of Richmond and Tracy Roberts of Johnson City, Tennessee, along with his sister, Dannet Jones of Florida. He was also lovingly connected to John and Brenda Walker of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, and Karen Mays of Bluefield, West Virginia. His steadfast friendship with Doug Davis of Bluefield was a testament to a bond unbroken by time.

A dedicated employee of the Virginia ABC Commission for 17 years, John brightened the days of many with his warm smiles and kind assistance at the Tazewell and Bluefield stores. His passions in life included the soulful strains of blues music, the tranquility of fishing, the thrill of hunting, and the joy of grilling steaks. With a heart inclined towards spirituality, he found solace in reading and studying the Bible.

In memory of John, a celebration of his life will take place on December 5th, 2026, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, West Virginia, at 5:30PM.
