John William Hedges, a devoted family man and respected ship master, passed away peacefully at home on March 20, 2026. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on May 10, 1944, John led a life marked by dedication, love, and quiet strength, leaving behind a legacy cherished deeply by those who knew him.

For 25 years, John served with commitment and skill as the ship master at Hobelmans Car Import Services. His work was not merely a career but a testament to his steady character and unwavering reliability. Yet, beyond the decks and docks, John found his greatest joy in simpler pleasures—particularly playing poker, a pastime he adored, and most importantly, surrounding himself with his beloved family.

John’s heart and pride were undoubtedly rooted in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who stood as living proof of his enduring love and the generations he nurtured. Such accomplishments illuminated his life, bringing him immeasurable happiness and fulfillment in his later years.

The circle of his life was framed by both loss and love. John is remembered with fondness for the family members who preceded him in death: his wife Linda Hedges; his two daughters, April Hedges and Linda Roston; his two sons, Billy Bump and James Bump; and his two brothers, Charles Hedges and James Lee Hedges. Though their absence leaves a palpable void, the memories they shared continue to enrich the lives of all who remain.

John’s surviving family includes James and Jessica Hedges; Kevin (Missy) Hedges; Mona (Drew) Schillinger; Marie (Paul) Tsang; Rose Lambert; Betty (Chip) Anthony; and John (Carmelita) Lynch. Each carries forward a part of John’s spirit, embodying the values he lived by and the warmth he so freely gave.

In his passing, we remember a man whose life was woven deeply into the fabric of family and fellowship. John William Hedges’s story is one of steadfast devotion, joyous gathering, and quiet achievements. His memory will linger in the laughter shared over poker tables, in the stories told of days long past, and most enduringly, in the hearts of those who loved him.
