Jess L. Pennington

Jess L. Pennington, 92, of Bluefield, WV went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, August 19, 2022. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. Born July 21, 1930, in Premier, WV to the late George Washington and Nellie Turpin Pennington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life for 50 years, Katie, siblings, Carl, Ed, Elaine, Warren, Walt, Garnett, and Gale, and infant great-grandchildren Thomas Lee and Kathryn Mae Adams.

Those left to forever cherish his memory are brothers, John Pennington and wife Shirley of Roderfield, WV, Jim Pennington and wife Penny of Princeton, WV, and sister Shirley Cline of Princeton, WV, daughter, Teresa Branham and husband Jeff of Bluefield, WV, son, Tim Pennington and wife Dorothy of Mount Holly, NC; grandchildren Krista Branham and fiancé Justin Adams of Bluefield, WV, Jeremy Branham and wife Heather of Bluefield, WV, T.J. Pennington and Brandon Pennington of NC; great-grandchildren Jasen and Aiden Branham of Bluefield, WV, Emily, Kathy, Caden, and Jack Pennington of NC; numerous nieces and nephews.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1948 through 1952, serving in the Korean War. He was a graduate of Graham High School and West Virginia Business College. He retired from Flowers Baking Company in 1985. He was a devoted Christian, founding member, and long-time member of Community Baptist Church.

The family wishes to express many thanks to Karen’s Christian Care of Princeton, WV, and their staff Karen, Renee, Wendi, and Cathy for the love and care they gave him as well as Traci Thompson and the nursing staff of Princeton Community Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Community Baptist Church at P.O. Box 463, Bluefield, WV 24701, or Karen’s Christian Care at 186 Winfrey Lane, Princeton, WV 24739.

            Funeral services will be performed by Pastor Ken Owens at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at 11:00 am and graveside service to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with military honors being performed by the Mercer County Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00, prior to the service. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
