Our beloved mother and grandmother, Janet Lane McVey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 4, 2026. Born June 18, 1940 in Bluefield, West Virginia, she was the cherished daughter of Fred and Vada Scott Farrington.
Janet lived a vibrant life full of adventure and laughter, traveling the world alongside her husband during his service in the U.S. Army, living across Europe and Asia. Upon returning home, she poured her heart into being a devoted mother to her two sons. She was also a longtime, dedicated employee at NAPA Auto Parts—a field where she truly thrived, effortlessly brightening the days of everyone she met through her genuine love for people. In earlier years, her gentle spirit shone as she taught Sunday school, and she remained a faithful longtime member of the Falls Mills Church of Christ.
Janet is joyfully reunited in death with her parents; her loving husband, Kenneth Ray McVey; her son, Timothy Ray McVey; and her brother, Kenneth Farrington and her daughter in law Martha Jo McVey.
She leaves behind a legacy of love to be cherished by her son, Gerald Everett McVey; her granddaughters, Kristen Layne Wright and Kaitlin Marie Eanes; and her adored great-grandsons, Kade Lucas and Gunnar Wayne Wright.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell at 12:00 PM, with services to immediately follow at 2:00 PM, with Jonce Leedy speaking for the family. Entombment will take place at Grandview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Bluefield, Virginia afterward. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
