Ida Mae Mitchem

Ida Mae Mitchem, 60, of Bluefield, West Virginia , passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026 after a long hard fight of many illnesses.

Born on August 17, 1965 in Welch West Virginia to the late Donald Miller and Carol Miller of Princeton. Ida was a Graduate of Bluefield State as well as Marshall University. She worked for Wardens Markets, Grants Supermarket, and later Mercer County DHHR where she retired. She loved working with her flowers each summer, and was known for her baking/ cooking.

She is survived by husband Gilbert Mitchem of Bluefield, Two daughters Melanie Brown (Hannah) of Richmond, Virginia, Gina Mitchem of Bluefield, two grandchildren Kayzlee Mitchem (her sunshine) of Bluefield and Holden Brown of Richmond, Virginia. She also leaves behind her mother Carol Miller, brother Donnie Miller of Mount Airy, a sister Sherry Cameron (Bruce) of Bluefield, and special aunt Barbara Profitt of Princeton, WV. She was preceded in death by her father Donald Miller and sister Lynn Banner.

Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in our hearts. She will forever be our Sunshine.

A funeral to celebrate Ida's life will be held on Saturday June 27, 2026, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell WV at 11:00am with Rev. Dr. Doug Hyndrich officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service at 10:00am Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery Princeton WV with family serving as pall bearers.
