Helen Agnes Young

Helen Young left for her heavenly home on the afternoon of September 13, 2026, after a brief 94 years in this world.

She left behind two children Cheryl Walters, James (Nice) Young Jr, two grandchildren Jessica (Geoffrey) Nathan, John Walters, brother Leonard (Mel) Nester along with many nieces and nephews and her friend Brenda Kraft.

She was preceded in death by loving husband James Young Sr, parents Clarence and Loma Nester, and sister Pansy Tankersley.

She began her journey on May 25, 1932, in Eckman, WV where she grew up and graduated from Northfork High School. Helen was in the first group of people that administered the Federal Food Stamp program in the early 1960’s and went on to spend 27 years working as a social worker for the state of West Virginia. After retirement from the state, she went on to be a social worker at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. She stayed busy outside of work by being a member of the Princeton Women’s Club, Quota Club, The Saturday Morning Breakfast Club at the Bluefield Hardees as well as the Women’s Circle and member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Bluefield. Helen had a deep love for her cats and the strays that would show up for a meal or other attention and because of this she requested donations to Second Chance for Cats or Trinity United Methodist Church.

Plans are being made for a celebration of life at a future date at Trinity United Methodist Church.
