Hazel Ellen Potter

Hazel Ellen Potter (McNew), 91 years old, ended her journey here on earth to be with the Lord in the early hours of Sunday, August 8, 2021, surrounded by her family at home.  Born on August 12, 1929 at Davy, WV, she was the daughter of Denita McNew (Trent) and Charles McNew of Asco, WV. Miss Potter was a resident of Princeton, WV for 43 years and formerly of McDowell County. She was a member of Harbour Light Baptist of Princeton, WV.  Miss Potter married Britton Potter of Pikeville, KY on July 26, 1946.  They had six children.  She was a devoted Christian, housewife, homemaker, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Charles McNew and Denita McNew, she was preceded in death by her husband, Britton Potter; and siblings, Charles McNew, Jr. of Tennessee, John McNew of Davy, WV, Nancy Reynolds of Ohio, Randall McNew of Fanrock, WV, Joyce Caldwell of Charleston, WV, and Joan Fletcher of Kodak, TN;

Survivors include: she was blessed to have 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; six children, Helen Justice (Jim Justice) of Taylor, MI, Jimmy Potter (Linda Potter)  of Princeton, WV, Alice Perkins (Wesley Perkins – deceased) of Princeton, WV, Vada Connell (Dennis Connell – deceased) of Madison Heights, MI, Vicky Brooks (Harry Brooks) of Princeton, WV, and Britton Potter, Jr. (Lisa Potter) of Stokesdale, NC; four siblings, Franklin McNew (Flo) of Massachusetts, Rex McNew (Jenny) of Kentucky, Robert McNew (Ruth) of Massachusetts, and Luceindia Puchalski of Massachusetts.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Lane of Harbour Light Baptist Church in Princeton, WV officiating.  Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park where grandsons, Matt Green, Jason Justice, P.J. Brooks, Joshua Potter, and Caleb Justice will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.  Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Potter family.
