Gwendolyn Starr Stephens, affectionately known as "Starr," passed away peacefully on August 27, 4, at the Hospice House in Beckley, West Virginia. Born on July 12, 1950, in Welch, West Virginia, Starr's bright spirit touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
Starr's life was a filled with love, laughter, and connection. At the age of 18, she fell head over heels for Tommy Stephens, the boy who would become her husband. Together, they crafted a remarkable 56 years of love and devotion that became the cornerstone of their family. She was a loving and supportive wife, always encouraging Tommy in every endeavor and sharing countless cherished moments with him. They enjoyed fishing, skiing, ATV riding and so many special times and memories with friends and family.
Starr was not only a devoted wife but also a nurturing mother to her son, TJ Stephens. Her love extended warmly to her sisters, Karen Mays and Pamela Mabry, as well as her sister-in-law Sheila Green, and her cousin Theresa Sorah forming an unbreakable bond that was a source of comfort and joy throughout their lives. She welcomed her nieces and nephews—Crystal and Cory Nunley, Amanda and Wayne McBride, Joseph Mays and Amanda Parks, and Glen and Valerie Green—into her heart, sharing with them all the love she carried so effortlessly.
Starr was a storyteller at heart, captivating those around her with her tales and fostering deep conversations that enriched the lives of her family and friends. Her vibrant dance moves were a reflection of her joyful personality, and her passion for life was contagious. Those who knew her understood that to be around Starr was to embrace the warmth of true friendship.
In addition to her living relatives, Starr joins her beloved parents, Glen and Goldie Green, and her brother, David Green, in eternal rest. Their spirits now dance together in the memories of happiness they once shared.
Starr's presence will be profoundly missed, yet the legacy of love she left behind will continue to inspire her family and friends. Each story recounted in her honor, each shared laughter, and the echoes of her life will serve as a testament to a life well-lived—one filled with devotion, warmth, and boundless love.
She was a bright shining Starr who made our lives, bigger, better and brighter.
