Grace Goldie Monitor, cherished of both her family and her community, passed away on December 17, 2025, in Ballard, West Virginia, at the age of 76. Born on September 16, 1949, in Anawalt, West Virginia, Grace was the beloved daughter of the late Drewey Rose and Viola Harman Rose. Grace's life was characterized by her unwavering dedication to those she loved and her compassionate nature, skills honed during her career as a Special Caregiver and as a valued employee at Kroger, where she retired after 20 years of service.
Grace was a graduate of Gary High School. Throughout her life, Grace found immense joy in spending time with her family, creating countless memories filled with love and laughter. She often spoke of her love for her daughters, Karen Fox (and husband Wayne) and Sharon Sullivan (and husband David), who remain in their respective homes in Ballard, WV, and Fredericksburg, VA.
Alongside her daughters, Grace is survived by her brothers Carl Rose of Alexandria, VA, Sylvester Rose, and William Rose, both of Pageton, WV, and her sister Dona Shavatt of Silver Springs, MD. Grace also embraced her role as a grandmother with pride, leaving behind her grandchildren: Christina Rose (and her husband Chris), Ashley Freeman (and her husband Ty), Amber Yancey (and her husband Coty), Matthew Fox (and his fiancée Krystal), and Sean Sullivan (and his fiancée Alexis). Her legacy extends further into the next generation with eight great-grandchildren who adored her dearly.
Though her family and friends are left with heavy hearts, they cherish the moments they shared with her and find solace in the special memories created together. Grace is now reunited with her beloved husband of 56 years, the late Charles Monitor, as well as her grandson, Jeremy Wayne Fox, and her great-granddaughter, Adalyn Grace Rose. She is also preceded in death by brothers Roy and Douglas Rose and sister Patricia Dillon, all of whom hold a special place in the fabric of her family history.
As her loved ones gather to honor her life, services will be held on December 22, 2025, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Homes in Bluefield, WV. The visitation will start at 12:00 PM, followed by her funeral service at 1:00 PM with Reverend David Spencer Officiating. After the service Grace will be interred at Woodlawn Cemetery in Bluewell, WV with Coty Yancey, Landon Belcher, Matthew Fox, Ty Freeman, Chris Rose, and John Dillon serving as pallbearers.
With a deep sense of gratitude, the family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice Care of Kanawha Valley, WV, for their compassionate support. Grace Goldie Monitor's vibrant spirit will forever remain alive in the hearts of those she leaves behind, and while she may have departed from this world, her love and wisdom will continue to guide her family through the days ahead.
