In addition to being a faithful and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he loved spending time with those he loved. He also loved attending Immanuel Baptist Church of Princeton, WV when his health allowed him.

George was a Greek immigrant that came to the United States in 1951 with only a few belongings, and not speaking a word of English. He was an extremely hard worker determined to make a life for himself in this country. He was offered a job at Inland Steel in Indiana Harbor, Indiana and worked there for six years. He always said, “if you have two hands you are gonna make something of yourself.” He came to McDowell County because he had an uncle that lived in Welch, WV. In 1957, George began working in the restaurant business at the Capitol Lunch. Many loved his famous beef stew. In 1967, he purchased the Sterling Drive-In. he was always there in his blue smock and baseball cap eager to greet everyone that entered the door. He always fellowshipped with everyone making sure their meal was delicious. Everyone in Welch knew George and he also knew everyone. Everyone called him “King George.” George was a people-person, very hospitable and wanted everyone to enjoy their meal. He was famous for a submarine sandwich that was made from a Turkish bread, dripping with cranberry sauce, a special meat spread, bacon, lettuce and tomato. People would drive from out of state just to enjoy the sandwich. In 2009, George retired.

George was greeted in Heaven by his father, Panayatis Kalogeromitros; mother, Olga Kalogeromitros; brother, Demettrius Kalogeromitros; sister, Yunula Basilios; grandsons, Christopher Rapp and Joseph Reed; son-in-laws, Charles Reed and Dr. Carl Steve Rapp.
