Elenor Caroline Poe Scott of Bluefield, WV was a caring wife, devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. Caroline went home to a joyous homecoming resting in the arms of God on June 3, 2026, at the age of 88 surrounded by loved ones.
She was born to Luther Hezekiah Poe and Cleo Belle Hawley Poe on February 21, 1938. After graduating from Bluefield High School, Caroline married Jimmy Marvin Scott and raised their children in Bluefield, WV.
She is survived by three children, Becki Yvonne Rose (Husband Johnny), Terry Marvin Scott and Kimberly Faye Handy (Husband Jeffrey); five grandchildren, Dr. Nicole Franklin (Husband Darren), Christa Artrip (Mike), Jonathan Rose (Wife Brittany), Matthew Rose (Wife Kaylee), and Tyler Shrewsbury; eight great-grandchildren, Abigail Franklin, Maxton Rose, Myles Rose, Oliver Rose, Preston Rose, Braydon Vires, Tryston Vires, Addison Vires; and many cousins, nieces and nephews including Linda Hager Corey.
Caroline was actively engaged in her faith and church her entire life including church services in her parent’s home and later a church built on their property, singing in a quartet at services with her cousins Janie (“Sis”) Janutolo Jones, Louise (“Babe”) Janutolo McVey and Barbara (“Bob”) Janutolo Jones, and participating in women’s and prayer groups. Caroline had a passion for Blue Grass music that included traveling to many festivals to hear live performances as well as operating “Blue Top Blue Grass” with her husband Jimmy, which provided live performances of top artist to the local community. She also loved visiting Topsail Island, NC, sitting on the fishing piers and getting into the vehicle with Jimmy or her children and traveling to enjoy the sites.
Caroline was preceded in death by her husband Jimmy Marvin Scott, parents, Luther Hezekiah Poe and Cleo Belle Hawley Poe, sister Naomi Ruth Poe Hager (Husband George) and nephew Billy Hager.
Viewing will be held at 10 a.m. with Caroline’s celebration of life to follow at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11 in the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home with Kathy Johnson (special family friend) officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Johnny Rose, Jeff Handy, Darren Franklin, Jonathan Rose, Matthew Rose and Mike Davidson. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Carroll Johnson, Walton Compton and Clayton Wagner. Musicians Emma Stuart and Susan Davidson will honor her during the service.
