Dortha Jane Havens

Dortha Jane Havens, 83, of Bluefield, WV, passed on Monday, June 12, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. 

Born February 14, 1940, in Montcalm, WV, she was a daughter of the late Theodore Russell and Lola Eva Perkins Pennington. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her home was always open, she often had way more people over for dinner than the table could accommodate. She loved her flowers and sitting in the patio watching her babies play. Janie left a lasting impression on her sons and grandchildren. She will truly be missed by all. 

In addition to her parents, Dortha was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” L. Havens Sr. son, Danny Shrader, daughter-in-law Tena Havens, sisters Mildred Lucado, Francis Plymale, and Betty Chandler and brothers, Bobby Joe “BJ” Pennington and William “Butch” Pennington. 

Survivors include her sons, Smokey Havens, Jeffrey A. Havens and wife Lori, and Scott E. Havens, all of Bluefield, WV; daughter-in-law, Alice Shrader of Bluefield, WV; brothers, Harold “Bo” Pennington and wife Alice of Montcalm, WV, and Richard Pennington and wife Carolyn Roseberry of Montcalm, WV; sisters, Shirley Sarver of Blacksburg, VA, and Vicky French of Bluefield, VA; four grandchildren, Nicky Simpson and husband Matt of Montcalm, WV, Budgee Havens and significant other Leann of Montcalm, WV, Tracy Havens of Montcalm, WV, and Danielle Havens and fiancé Ryan Wallace of Bluewell, WV; six great grandchildren, Dylan, Khloe, Chloee, Eithan, Tucker, and Gunner; and special friends and family, Jeanette King, Bobby and Nita Ratliff, and Denny and Ruth Whitesel. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, June 16, 2023, at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell, WV, with Rev. David Kirby officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV, where Budgee Havens, Tracy Havens, Matt Simpson, Dylan Simpson, Ryan Wallace, and Denny Whitesel will serve as pallbearers. 

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until the time of service.
