Donnie Eugene Hunnell

Donnie Eugene Hunnell, 67 of Ashland, WV passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on February 6, 2023, in the home of his caregiver Larry Bailey and friend Vivian. 

Born on April 17, 1955 in Bluefield, WV he was the son of the late Ernest Paul Hunnell, Sr and Stella K Lowe Hunnell.  He was a lifelong resident of McDowell County. 

Donnie had various jobs over his lifetime including working in the coal mines and the timber mill.  He was also a firefighter with Northfork Volunteer Fire Department, Northfork WV.  Donnie will be affectionately remembered for his passion for helping others and his love for animals. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Virginia Shell Hunnell, siblings Nellie Loretta Crigger, Ernest Paul Hunnell Jr, Ray Michael Hunnell, and Archie K Hunnell. 

Survivors include his sisters Patricia Surber and husband Tom of King, NC; Phylis Martin of Princeton WV; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends Rosie Sizemore and Anna Mahjoub.

Funeral services will be conducted  11:00 AM Friday, February 10, 2023 at  Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with C.T. Lilly officiating.  Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA where Joseph Hunnell, Paul Hunnell, Keith Meade, Robert Reece, Greg East, and Paul David Hunnell will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, February 9, 2023.
