Dirk Eugene Helms

Dirk “Rooster” Eugene Helms, 53, of Welch, WV, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Welch Community Hospital.

Born on November 21, 1969, in Bluefield, WV, he was a son of the late Jean Oiler and Shelby Jean Meadows. He was a lifelong resident of McDowell County and worked in construction. He will be missed by all.

In addition to his parents, Dirk was preceded in death by his step-grandson Chance Ellis.

Those left to cherish Dirk’s memory are his stepchildren, Wesley Milam Jr. and wife Brandi and Miranda Ellis both of Montcalm, WV; 12 brothers and sisters; 6 step-grandchildren, Aubri, Rayden, Damien, Alexis, Braylon, and Camron; close friends, Mike, Gloria, and Nancy; best friend, Peyton Osborne; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Friday, May 26, 2023, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV with Pastor Mike Blake officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until the time of service.
