Dexter James Key

Dexter James Key,72 of Bluefield, WV,  passed away on June 15, 2026, at CAMC Memorial Hospital. Born on June 6, 1954, in Welch, West Virginia, Dexter’s journey was one of resilience, kindness, and hard work, qualities that earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him.

He held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, delighting in their company with a warmth that was unmistakable. Family was the cornerstone of his life, and he was known for being a kind and hardworking individual—truly a great man.

Dexter is survived by his beloved daughter, Christina Kessler, and her husband, Justin Kessler. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Christopher and Kathleen, who were a source of immense pride and happiness for him. Dexter’s brothers, Ronnie Key and Larry Key along with his wife Nanette, and his sisters Wanda Hazelwood with her husband Kenny, and Linda Graham,and several nieces and nephews to carry forward his memory with love and respect.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Alfred Key, and mother, Dina Jane Cecil Key, as well as his dear wife, Kathleen Faye Key. Dexter also mourned the loss of his siblings Agnes, Willie “Button,” Elwood, Shelby “Ducky,” Harold “Blue Eyes,” Junior, Jerry.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing this extraordinary man.

In keeping with Dexter’s wishes he will be cremated and there will be no public service.
