Devon Wesley Farmer, Jr.

January 28, 1951 — October 9, 2021

Devon Wesley Farmer Jr, 70, of Skygusty, West Virginia left his earthly home for his heavenly home on Saturday, October 9, 2021. He had been a resident of McDowell County for the last 50 years.

He was born to Devon Wesley Farmer Sr and Betty Imogene Kirby Farmer on January 28, 1951 in New York. He was raised in Bluefield by his grandmother Margaret Kirby. He was a graduate of Bluefield High School. Wes was an avid fan of the Bluefield Beavers, the West Virginia Mountaineers, and the Pittsburg Steelers.

Over the years, he had a variety of occupations. He was a coal miner, a logger, and in younger years he did work for people in the Skygusty Community. Before retirement, he was an employee of Americorps and worked in the McDowell County School system and the Eckman Learning Center. He greatly enjoyed this work and touched the lives of many people. 

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Robin Farmer of nearly 20 years. He leaves behind four children: Jeremy Farmer of Clarksburg WV, Stephanie Vance (Preston) of Bristol TN, Shannon Keyser (Jennifer) of Bluewell WV, and Kristen Miller (Tom) of Skygusty WV.  Also left to cherish his memory are four granddaughters who were his pride and joy. They are Haley Keyser of Princeton WV, Emma Vance of Bristol TN, and Whitley and Ashely Miller of Skygusty WV. The members of Faith Baptist Church in Blackwolf WV were also dear friends and family. 

Services will be held at Faith Baptist Church in Blackwolf WV on Saturday October 16, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Wes was a lover of animals, so in lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to local humane societies and animal rescue organizations. 


Online condolences will be accepted at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell is serving the Farmer family.
