Listen to Obituary

David Keene, 82, of Bluefield, Virginia, went to be with his Heavenly Father on January 25, 2026.

David was born on August 5, 1943 in McDowell County West Virginia, the son of the late Earl and Leonay Keene. He lived a life marked by service, faith, and devotion to both God and family.

A proud Vietnam veteran, David served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He achieved the rank of Specialist Fourth Class (SP4) and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service.

David dedicated his entire civilian career to the United States Postal Service, where he faithfully served until retiring as Postmaster, overseeing the North Tazewell area. His work ethic and integrity earned him the respect of colleagues and community alike.

Above all, David was a devoted servant of the Cumberland Road Church of God. Through consistent service, compassion, and unwavering faith, he demonstrated what it truly means to love God and love people. Over the years, he served as Head Usher, Church Council member, Trustee, and Bus Driver, always willing to help wherever he was needed.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his first wife, Bridget Sue Keene; two brothers, Ralph Keene and James Keene; and six sisters, Merlie Mullins, Rosie Ford, Rubie Dudleson, Patricia Turley, Eileen Tinsley, and Sharon Keene.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ellen Keene; his son, Eric Keene (Mandy); his daughter, Amy Keene; and his stepson, Doug Minnix (Jan), two bothers Jerry Keene (Barbara) and Roger Keene (Joyce).

David was a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren: Cody Sayers (Amber), Riley Graham, Elsie Bauserman, Campbell Bauserman, Caden Minnix (Rhyan), Sarah Vaughan (Cory), Hanna Porter (Tobin), Dakota Graham (Hayleigh), Hunter Graham (Ciera), Cheyanne Graham, and Summer Graham, along with twelve great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

David will be remembered for his quiet strength, servant’s heart, and steadfast faith. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, service, and devotion to God will continue to live on in all who knew him.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, February 2, 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with his son, Eric Keene, Bishop Glen York and Minister Travis Helmandollar officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
