In honor of the life and legacy of Daniel Michael Klimaitis Jr., it is with heavy hearts that we announce his passing on May 19, 2024, in Bluefield, West Virginia. Born on November 4, 1960, at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia, Danny was a beloved son, brother, father, friend and so much more to those who had the privilege of knowing.
Danny's journey through life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his passions. After graduating from Rocky Gap High School and later Johnson and Wales University, he pursued a career that blended his love for cooking and hospitality. He ventured into the culinary world by opening Mickey's on the Market in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, where he delighted guests with his culinary creations. Additionally, Danny explored a career in car sales and eventually retired from Ramey Chevrolet after dedicating many years to the industry.
A man of many talents and interests, Danny found joy in various pursuits such as fishing, boating, hunting, and spending countless days at Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms. His adventurous spirit was reflected in the fond memory of catching a large yellow Fin Tuna and then preparing a delicious meal for his family – a moment cherished by all who were present.
Beyond his professional accomplishments and hobbies, Danny's true essence shone through in his playful personality and kind heart. Known for his infectious laughter and mischievous pranks, he brought smiles to all those around him. His deep-rooted faith was evident as he started each day by sharing prayers with his beloved pups.
A proud veteran who served in the United States Coast Guard with honor before receiving an Honorable Discharge, Danny held his service close to his heart. One of his most cherished achievements was following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father by serving his country. However, the role he treasured above all was that of being a loving father to Daniel Devin Klimaitis and Jamie Hancock.
In times of hardship due to health challenges he faced in recent years, Danny showed immense strength and courage. While we mourn his loss deeply, we take solace in knowing that he is no longer in pain.
Daniel leaves behind a legacy that will be forever remembered by those who survive him: Mary E. Klimaitis (Mother), Kenneth A. Klimaitis (Brother), Cindy Klimaitis (Sister-in-law), Pete Peckis (Uncle), Cathy Whitt (Aunt), Joe Turner (Uncle), Margret Smith (Aunt), Cheryl Justice (Special Friend) - all of whom will continue to hold him dear in their hearts.
As we bid farewell to Daniel Michael Klimaitis Jr., let us celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with love, laughter, service, and unwavering devotion to family and friends. May his memory live on as a beacon of light and inspiration for us all.
Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard.
