Carol Ann Simpson Murphy, 79, of Princeton, WV, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Carilion Giles Community Hospital.
Carol was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and friend who lived a life defined by grace, compassion, and unwavering faith. She poured her heart into countless ministries and fellowship activities. Her warmth, gentle wisdom, and bright spirit touched the lives of everyone she welcomed into her circle.
Born on September 16, 1946, in Wallins, KY, she was one of nine children born to the late A.M. and Rachel Brock Simpson. Carol had been a resident of Princeton, WV for twenty-five years and was a member of the Princeton First Church of the Nazarene. Prior to Princeton First, she attended the Maybeury Church of God. Carol had worked for the McDowell County Board of Education and was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her soulmate and the love of her life, her husband, Roy H. Murphy; along with eight siblings: Thelma Brock, Homer Simpson, Irene Johnson, Robert Simpson, Naomi "Jib" Rife, Mildred Price, Nina Nantz, and Rachel Faye Charles. Carol was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Those who are left to cherish Carol's memory are her children, Tina Chenard of Peterstown, WV; and Tommy Murphy and wife, Tonya of Princeton, WV; granddaughter, Courtney Akers and husband, Aaron; great-grandchildren, Avery and Ava Akers and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Princeton First Church of the Nazarene on Oakvale Road, with Pastor Jon Noggle and Brandan Nowlin officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens where family will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in Carol's honor to Princeton First Church of the Nazarene C/O Carol's Crew/Compassion Ministries 309 Oakvale Rd Princeton WV 24740 or on givelify.com.
